Tillers and Pandaren Cooking Reference Guide

January 3, 2013 - 4:55 am 4 Comments

With a couple of months now passed since the launch of Mists of Pandaria, I’ve done a whole lot of mindless farming – literally farming not the gamer slang version. Let’s face it, there’s a whole lot of achievements associated with farming and cooking, so, being the achievement-whore that I am, I just had to put in the effort to get all of them. It’s not a short journey, that much is certain. Is it fun? Not particularly.

To master all of the Ways of cooking and to earn the best friendship of all of the friends of the farm, it takes a whole lot of resources. Harvested ingredients, hunted ingredients, and fished ingredients galore, in total it’s a collection of well over 5,000 individual items – and this isn’t including the Now I am the Master achievement. Keeping track of all the needed resources for all these achievements is quite a task, but having a fancy spreadsheet sure does help.

To keep track of all these resources and to find out exactly how many more I needed to complete most of the achievements, I built a comprehensive spreadsheet covering Friend on the Farm, Master of Pandaren Cooking, ! To Be a Master, and various additional quests that revolve around Pandaren cooking. This spreadsheet will track a complete listing of all the ingredients required to accomplish maxing out your farmer friendships, hitting 600 in all Ways of cooking, and becoming a Master cook by cooking each of the six 600-skill recipes. The spreadsheet should expand over time as I complete more quests.

This spreadsheet was inspiried by Thaildl over in the WoWhead comments.

Tiller Friendship Farming Spreadsheet

One of the big new features in Mists of Pandaria is the farming side-game. It obviously ties in with the new cooking system as the new it thing in World of Warcraft. Part of the grind is raising your friendship – a new form of reputation – with each of the Pandarian farmers at Halfhill. You’ve got dailies and random gifts to provide each farmer to strengthen your friendship, but you’ve also got the option to give each farmer his or her favorite dish. Well, keeping track of all the dishes, ingredients, and exactly how many of it all you need to cap out each friendship is no small undertaking.

Thankfully, over in the Wowhead comments, Kiingz created a nice little list of just how many ingredients is used for each daily dish. Thaildl took it one step further and created a spreadsheet that allows you to insert your current friendship level and how many ingredients you already have and automatically tallies up exactly how many more of each ingredient you’ll need to become Best Friends with everyone.

Well, being the OCD spreadsheet person that I am, I decided to refine Thaildl’s work a bit and take the spreadsheet a few more steps. My version of the spreadsheet allows you to specify not only your current friendship, but also your current tier – it eliminates the step of having to add up the tier and your current rep. I’ve added a chart of all the friendship tiers and alphabetized everything to make it easier to grab your numbers in game and enter them into the spreadsheet. I listed the name of each dish paired up with the name of the farmer. Finally, I polished up the look of the spreadsheet to make it easier to view.

Thanks to Kiingz and Thaildl on a job well done, and enjoy my refined and polished version.
